Wendy Dodds – Forty Years on the Fells
Date: Thursday 21 September
Venue: The Golden Rule, Smithy Brow
Fell-running legend Wendy Dodds talks about her long-distance epic runs on the Lakeland fells and beyond.
Wendy, now in her 60s, has been a lifelong member of Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, a long-established road, cross-country and fell running club founded in 1922 whose claim to fame is that it was one of the first clubs to introduce women to fell running.
Fell runners will recognise the distinctive gold band, trimmed with black, on a Clayton-le-Moors runner’s which vest; many fell runners will recognise Wendy Dodds, though for many all that they ever saw of her was a fast-disappearing dot on the horizon!
The Golden Rule is one of the Lake District’s most iconic public houses, famous for its ambience, good beer and roaring fire.
