LIVE MUSIC: At the Market Cross

Last year’s festival featured a free Saturday night concert that drew good crowds to the Market Cross to listen to the blue/rock sounds of Cumbrian band Uncle Carbunkle.

This year there will be TWO NIGHTS of live music at the Market Cross with four musical acts to suit all tastes.

Date: Friday 22 September

Venue: Market Cross pedestrianised area (opposite the Post Office)

Time: 7.30-8.15pm

Support act:

Scrogans Run

The excellent duo of Paddy Rogan and Wayne Scurrah (banjo, guitar and vocals) entertain with an eclectic mix of folk and country sounds.

Date: Friday 22 September

Time: 8.30-10pm

Main act:

Room Full of Mirrors

The Kendal-based combo needs no introduction to Cumbrian music lovers – their highly original music has been wowing audiences in the north-west for several years. It has been described as ‘addictive, foot-tapping, Greek wedding stuff’. Whatever way you put it, the Mirrors have an intoxicating sound and a unique appeal, with great showmanship from frontman and guitarist Paul Harrison backed up by Dawn Foster’s violin and a tight rhythm section.

Simply unmissable.

Date: Saturday 23 September

Venue: Market Cross pedestrianised area (opposite the Post Office)

Time: 7.30-8.15pm

Support act:

Phil Saunders and Friend

Phil will be a familiar face to festival goers who were at last year’s open-air concert – he is the main man in Uncle Carbunkle. This year he returns, with a pal, to stomp out some more of his foot-tappin’ blues and R&B sounds. Welcome back, Mister Deadpan!

Date: Saturday 23 September

Time: 8.30-10pm

Main act:

The Mojo Blues Band

A brilliant five-piece band from South Lakes who play a wide range of blues and blue/rock covers and much more – from Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga to Daft Punk and beyond. If this lot doesn’t get you dancing then no-one will; eagle-eyed music fans will spot Paul Harrison among Mojo’s ranks – yes, THE Paul Harrison from Room Full of Mirrors, who shows he’s just as much at home with commercial tunes as with the more eclectic Mirrors stuff.
