Guided Wild Swims

GUIDED WILD SWIMS: try the waters around Ambleside

Three ‘taster’ swims for BEGINNERS or more experienced swimmers looking to try out NEW WATERS, and two for more EXPERIENCED SWIMMERS (Friday 22 September and Sunday 24 September).

They are being provided by Swim The Lakes, based in Compston Road, Ambleside (at the bottom end of the one-way system through the town, near to the White Platts recreation ground), and being led by experienced open-water swimmer Pete Kelly.

You may well have seen last year on the third series of the BBCʼs Secret Britain helping Ellie Harrison find her feet in open-water swimming on Windermere.

Friday 22 September

TIME: 9.30am: Wild Swimming Taster Session. Just book, turn up, and go wild swimming; we provide everything you’ll need for this Ambleside-based wild swimming adventure!

TIME: 2.30pm: Wild Swimming Taster Session.

TIME: 7.30pm: Secret Britain Night Swim. Our most popular Festival swim last year; as featured on the BBC Secret Britain Programme. This is a swim for those of you who like their wild swimming a little bit out of the ordinary. Our moonlit swims give you the opportunity to forget about your speed and  technique and instead enjoy swimming for what it really is: a chance to tune into a different frequency, explore, and get closer to the spirit of real wild swimming. If we’re lucky we may even encounter the famous Windermere otters…

Saturday 23 September

TIME: 9.00am: Down the River Without a Paddle. A delightful wild swim down the Brathay River a short walk away from our Ambleside base.

TIME: 2.30pm: Wild Swimming Taster Session.
